Oxford High Rolls Past Clarksdale to Improve to 9-0
It was a cold night in Oxford Friday night but that didn’t cool down the explosive Oxford High School Chargers offense as they dismantled the Clarksdale Wildcats 47-12. The win improves Oxford’s record on the season to 9-0 and Clarksdale falls to 4-4.
The Chargers offense was dominant early and often as they scored 21 unanswered points to start the game. The Wildcats came storming back in the second quarter with a 60-yard touchdown run by Juantavius Gray. That was the last time the Wildcats would reach the endzone until well after the game was in hand.
The Chargers defense suffocated the Clarksdale passing attack. The Wildcats were held to just 19 yards of passing with two interceptions while only completing 6 of 16 passes.
On the flip side Jack Abaraham for Oxford had a stellar night passing the ball completing 14 of 23 passes for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Leading the receiving corps for Oxford was DK Metcalf as he caught two of the three touchdown passes on the night.
Clarksdale did have bright spots running the ball and finished the game with 41 rushing attempts and 275 rushing yards (6.7 yards per carry), which is 18 yards above their season average.
The Oxford rushing attack helped balance out the offense as the Chargers finished the game with 40 rushes for 214 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.
“I was proud of our effort tonight and felt like we played a complete game,” Johnny Hill, Oxford High School Head Coach, said.
Next week the undefeated Chargers will travel to Center Hill High School to face a struggling Mustangs team who is currently 1-8 on the season.
