OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss softball team’s hard work in the classroom throughout the 2012-13 academic year was recognized by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, as the association announced Monday afternoon that five Rebels were named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes.

Brittany Broome, Allison Brown, Alyssa Invergo, Londen Ladner and Kelly Nolan were named NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes for holding a GPA of 3.5 or higher for both the fall 2012 and spring 2013 academic years. In addition, the Ole Miss softball team was also recognized as a 2013 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Team for holding a GPA of 3.18.
“I’m really proud of how hard our girls worked in the classroom and our academic counselor, Abigail McDonald Drescher, has done a great job,” Ole Miss head coach Windy Thees said. “Now we will be looking for even more improvements this year in the classroom and on the field so we can be the best in both areas.”

The Rebels enter year three under the tutelage of Thees, associate head coach Mike Perniciaro and assistant coach Julie Meyer with 13 letterwinners returning, including the entire starting infield. The Rebels led the Southeastern Conference and were third nationally with a .979 fielding percentage last season. Ole Miss’ 16-9 start last season tied the second best start in program history for the opening 25 games, and the Rebels’ nine-game winning streak from Feb. 20-March 1 tied the program’s longest winning streak.

Ole Miss closes out its fall exhibition schedule Thursday with a home doubleheader against Northwest Mississippi Community College at the Ole Miss Softball Complex at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. CT.
