BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss junior Blake Morris claimed the program’s first individual title since 2010, firing an three round total of 8-under par to share medalist honors with Memphis’ Lars van Meijel at the Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by Graeme McDowell.

Morris got off to a hot start with three birdies in the first six holes and shot a 73 in the final round to lead Ole Miss to a third-place tie with No. 18 Florida. Memphis and UAB finished first and second, respectively.

The last Ole Miss golfer to win an individual title was Jonathan Randolph at the Chris Schenkel Invitational in 2010, the last of his three wins that season.

It marked Morris’ fifth top-five finish in his career. Prior to the win, the Waterbury, Conn., native had finished in third three times as a Rebel, most recently at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate last month.

“We are all really proud of Blake Morris and his win,” head coach Ernest Ross said. “It was a tough battle, and he had to make an eight-footer on 18 to be declared the co-champion. As a team, we didn’t play our best. Congrats to Memphis for a great round today and winning the team title. Our guys can take away some good lessons.”

The third-place tie is the Rebels’ best team finish this season.

Freshman Noah West shot a 75 on the final day and finished tied for a career-best ninth with a three-day total of 2-under, 214.

Forrest Gamble tied for 24th with a total of 218, and Joe Lewis shot a 221, good for a tie for 34th. Ben Wolcott finished in a tie for 44th with a 226.

Ole Miss returns to action on Oct. 14 at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic in Atlanta.
