BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ole Miss’ Michaela Quinn made her collegiate cross country debut a memorable one.
Quinn led the Rebel women with a seventh-place individual finish at the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational and was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week and Women’s Freshman of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.
The Nowra, Australia, native helped Ole Miss to a quality fifth-place showing against a strong field of teams in Virginia. She ran a 17:11.9, which is the fourth-best 5K in the SEC this year and the best by an SEC freshman.
She finished first among SEC runners in Virginia and second among all freshmen at the meet.
Ole Miss returns to action on Oct. 19 at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.
