Smoky and the Biscuit: Embers Now Open
Newcomb and company putting on a lip-smacking smoke show on University Ave.
In June, we told you about Don Newcomb’s new restaurant enterprise, Embers Biscuits and Bar-B-Que. Its soft opening is underway, and I can report that the food is just as good and smoke-forward as you might have predicted. After my first visit, I’m qualified to attest that the pulled pork biscuit and ham biscuit, which I had for breakfast, are top-notch. You can get egg and stuff on there. I opted for just cheese. The ham biscuit, with thin-sliced smoked ham, is especially impressive. It’s so smoky, I would not have been surprised to see Buford T. Justice in my rear view in hot pursuit as I left the drive-through.
There’s a lot more on the menu than what I got, and I look forward to exploring it. Lunch, with several enticing sandwiches, is available all day.
It’s located on University Avenue just West of Sno Biz, forming a magical one-two punch of treats purveyed by a dentist and a coach.
