OM Volleyball to Play on ESPNU
Rebels to face intrastate rival on national TV Nov. 6
The Ole Miss volleyball team will play on ESPNU on Nov. 6 when it travels south to Starkville, Miss., to take on Mississippi State, the Southeastern Conference office announced Wednesday.
“It’s always fun and exciting to showcase our team and university on national TV,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin said. “Our matches against Mississippi State always bring out the best in both teams with high energy and high intensity. It should be a great match for TV.”
The Rebels played four matches on TV last season, going 3-1 with all three wins coming at home. Ole Miss defeated Missouri and South Carolina on Oct. 19 and Oct. 21, respectively, and Alabama on Nov. 21. Ole Miss is 1-1 against Mississippi State in televised matches dating back to 2010.
This will mark the first time Ole Miss has played on ESPNU since Oct. 2, 2011, when Ole Miss hosted Mississippi State.
Ole Miss’ match against the Bulldogs on Nov. 6 will also be available on WatchESPN. ESPNU is available in 75 million homes.
Fans can get their first glimpse of the 2013 Rebels at the Red-Blue Scrimmage on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT at the Gillom Sports Center. Ole Miss welcomes seven newcomers to the team this season, including five freshmen and two junior transfers.
Ole Miss begins the 2013 season on the road at the GW/Nike Invitational in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 30 against UMBC. The Rebels’ first home match will be Sept. 6 against Kennesaw State in the Magnolia Invitational.
