Fowler, Schiavone conclude play at Pure Silk Team Championship
Ole Miss women’s golfers Kathryn Fowler and Stani Schiavone shot 4- and 6-over-par, respectively, in the final round Thursday at the Pure Silk Women’s Collegiate Team Championship presented by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. Thursday’s scoring format was aggregate score for each of the 42 two-person teams, and Ole Miss’ final round score of 154 at Wedgewood Golf & Country Club (par 72 – 5,211 yards) in Powell, Ohio, placed the Rebels in 11th.
After playing alternate shot Tuesday and best ball Wednesday, Fowler and Schiavone fired an aggregate score of 10-over-par Thursday to finish at 15-over-par overall. Fowler and Schiavone’s 154 Thursday was tied for the eighth best aggregate score in the tournament.
Fowler carded a 2-over-par 38 on the front and back nine Thursday, recording birdies on No. 6 and No. 14, both par 5s. Schiavone shot a 2-over-par 38 going out and a 4-over-par 40 coming in.
The tournament consisted of 42 two-person teams comprised of the top current women’s collegiate golfers from around the country. Each team paired players from the same university in a 54-hole stroke-play event. Teams were comprised of players from all levels of collegiate golf, including Division I, II and III programs.
Ole Miss was one of five schools from the Southeastern Conference competing in the Pure Silk Women’s Collegiate Team Championship. The Rebels were joined by Kentucky, Missouri, which had two teams in the event, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
