New Oxford Parking Lot Spaces Ahead of Schedule
The construction of one of Oxford’s few longterm parking lots has Square goers wondering when the parking area will be completed.
City Engineer Bart Robinson has reported the parking is expected to be done by Aug. 15, just around the time school gets back in session. Thanks to fair and sunny weather, the parking lot could be reopened ahead of schedule.
The renovation of the northeast corner parking lot behind Highpoint Coffee and M&F Bank will offer around 100 new, longterm parking spaces. The new spaces come from the one acre lot located behind the Lindsey’s Chevron and Pita Pit buildings that was purchased by the city for $2.3 million, and has since been under construction by Southern General Contractors LLC.
While the original main parking lot will not be changed, the extra one acre will allow the city to address the design problems with the existing lot’s layout.
