The darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Wednesday, Grandma, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch is coming to the University of Mississippi.

The 2013-14 national tour of the new musical “The Addams Family,” based on the on the bizarre and beloved family of characters created by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, stops by the Gertrude C. Ford Center for the Performing Arts at 8 p.m. June 2.

Chris Jones of the Chicago Tribune described the production as “classic, full-tilt, fast-paced, old-fashioned musical comedy!”

The glitzy and gloomy musical should be fun for the entire family, said Norm Easterbrook, Ford Center director.

“The Addams Family was a Broadway smash and musical hit,” Easterbrook said. “What better way to start the summer than with this wacky and strange family.”

Tickets to the musical range from $55.50  to $66.50 for various seating and available by visiting the UM Box Office in the Student Union or by calling 662-915-7411.

“The Addams Family” musical features an original story that reflects every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. A man her parents have never met. What’s more, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother.

Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before: keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

“The Addams Family” was created by “Jersey Boys” authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa. The production is directed by four-time Tony Award-winner Jerry Zaks with choreography by Sergio Trujillo. The North America tour is produced by Phoenix Entertainment, Stephen B. Kane and Michael McFadden, by special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
