Ole Miss senior outfielder Brittany Broome has been named to the Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team for her work in the Ole Miss and Oxford communities, the league office announced Monday.

A Brad Davis SEC Community Service Postgraduate Scholarship female finalist, Broome has worked hard in the community over her past four years as a Rebel. Over the last year, she has participated in delivering Thanksgiving meals to needy families, community sports clinics, multiple cancer awareness events and First Baptist Buford’s delivery during Christmas break.

In delivering Thanksgiving meals to needy families, the Suwanee, Ga., native organized boxes, helped create travel routes, received donations from local food stores and delivered boxes to families. Broome helped organize hitting and fielding drills in free community sports clinics by working with parents to help teach their children basic softball skills.

She helped organize welcome gifts and survivor bags for the “Walk for the Women We Love 5K”, and participated in Reading with the Rebels by reading books to elementary school students.

She is also a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District nominee, Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award nominee, and the current president of the Ole Miss Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Broome set the Ole Miss single season stolen bases record this season by swiping 33 bags. She also broke the career stolen bases record (75) and holds the program’s longest hitting streak at 13 games.

The SEC sponsors community service teams for all 21 league sponsored sports. The community service team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community in superior service efforts.
