Fifth annual brew-‘n’-chew event is back, April 4

This Thursday, April 4, the Powerhouse Community Arts Center will open its doors to those who have been anticipating this year’s Miss-I-Sippin’ annual food and beer tasting. For the fifth consecutive year, students of the Ole Miss Hospitality Management Program and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council have worked to put on Miss-I-Sippin’. Each year the menu, that features twists on typical Southern cuisine, aims to become more and more innovative with its food and beer pairings.

“Menu items (see below) have transformed typical bar food into lighter, more unique versions,” says Project Coordinator Olivia Geels. For example, students reimagined the familiar slider concept into a fresh pesto chicken slider. “Pork rinds are being used as a replacement for popcorn, with an array of sauces and also as a crust for a sausage stuffed mushroom,” she notes.

“These savvy foods are just the beginning of what is new this year. The new craft beer legislation has opened doors for the event. Just a few of the various beer brands being served at the event, thanks to Clark Beverage Group, are Abita, Lazy Magnolia and Sierra Nevada. Other beer that will be served are of high gravity and IPA quality. The taste of these beer are unique and are complemented by the food they are paired with.”

The ticket price is $35. The event, which runs from 7 to 9 p.m., has sold out for the last four years, so organizers encourage the public to secure tickets quickly from Hospitality Management students or by calling the Arts Council at (662) 236-6429. For more information, http://oxfordarts.com
