The Ole Miss baseball team returns to action tonight against Arkansas State Red Wolves at Swayze Field.
Ole Miss (21-4, 3-3 SEC) currently sits at number eleven in the Baseball America poll, dropping five spots after losing their weekend series to the Texas A&M Aggies.
Both juniors Stuart Turner and Austin Anderson continue to be tough outs for their competition. Turner leads the SEC in hitting with a .459 batting average through the first six weeks of play, while Anderson is proving to be one of the nation’s most adept players at the plate, with only one strike out on the year.
Arkansas State (16-9) rolls into town after a series loss to Florida Atlantic this past weekend. The Owls defeated the Red Wolves in games two and three after Friday night’s victory by Arkansas State.
The Red Wolves are led at the plate by seniors Ryan Emery and Alex Potts, who both have a .304 batting average. Together, they boast a total of 35 RBI’s.
The pitching matchup for tonight’s game will showcase Cody Woodhouse for ASU. Josh Laxer will get the nod from coach Mike Bianco.
The Rebels and the Red Wolves are no strangers to each another on the diamond, with collegiate competition going back all the way to 1951. Ole Miss holds an all-time 65-21 lead in the series and a commanding 49-12 lead at home. Since the 2008 season, the Rebels have won five straight match ups at Swayze.
Last season, the two teams spilt the series with the home squads each picking up a victory.
