The Ole Miss Rebels return to the diamond at Swayze Field today to play host to the Lipscomb Bisons in a three-game series.
No. 7 Ole Miss (13-1) heads into the matchup after back-to-back sweeps of Florida International last weekend and Southeastern Louisiana during a two-game midweek series. Junior Stuart Turner had a spectacular day behind the plate Wednesday against Southeastern Louisiana, throwing out 3-of-4 base stealers in the game. Turner is 11 for 15 catching base stealers trying to advance this season.
Junior Austin Anderson hit his first home run of the year against the Lions on Tuesday.
Lipscomb ( 6-7) comes into Oxford after a mid-week victory over Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. The Bisons are led at the plate by senior Aaron Sandoval, who has a .413 batting average on the season. Lipscomb’s pitching staff as a team has a 4.88 ERA. They have struck out 91 batters and allowed 87 walks so far on the year.
The probable pitching matchup for this weekends series showcases the Lipscomb Bisons: senior Josh Cotham who will start tonight’s game, senior Davey Hacket will be on the mound for Saturday’s matchup and for the Bisons on Sunday, the will call on the arm of sophomore Will Blalock. While coach Mike Bianco is going to use with the same rotation that the Rebels have sent to the mound in the past two weekends with Wahl tonight, Mayers on Saturday and Smith on Sunday.
This is only the second time the Rebels and the Bisons have ever met on a baseball diamond. These two teams met in Oxford back in 2011 with Ole Miss sweeping the series by a score 8-0, 3-0 and 5-1.
This weekend’s series game times are today at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 1:30 p.m., and Sunday, also at 1:30 p.m.
