From Ole Miss Sports Information

The Ole Miss cheerleaders captured second place in the World University Championships and fifth in Division IA at the UCA National Championships this past weekend at the Walt Disney Resort.

The competition is considered the most prestigious cheerleading championship in the country.

Ole Miss placed second in the World University Championships among nine international and U.S. teams and fifth out of 13 finalists in the National Championships.  The Rebels finished third among SEC schools in Division IA.  Memphis won the event, followed by Kentucky, Alabama and UCF.

The Rebelettes also competed at nationals in Division IA Jazz and Hip Hop, advancing to the semifinals.

“I’m so proud of the spirit squads for how they represent the Ole Miss brand,” said Michael Thompson, senior associate athletics director for marketing and communications.  “Being recognized as one of the very best in the world doesn’t happen without determination, sacrifice and hard work.”

The cheerleaders are coached by Trey Griffin and assisted by Perren Young.  The Rebelettes are coached by Emily Wood.
