The Stretch Run in Rebel Recruiting

Published

on

GP Galloway has spent the last 20 years as Director of Marketing for companies in Charlotte, NC as well as founder of Professional Resource Marketing. Marketing and sales has been a passion of his for years. He now spends his time blogging about one of the great loves of his life, Ole Miss Rebel sports. He is married to the former Rebecca Dail of Chapin, SC and spends time with his dogs Juno, Koko Taylor, and Levon. He enjoys blues music from the Mississippi Delta and has an extensive blues collection.

As the first of the year approaches, things are about to get real serious in recruiting. The coaches will tell you it has been serious for a long time. The last few recruits will be making their mind up about where they want to spend the next four years. Schools will lose interest in some recruits. Right now, the Rebels are sitting pretty with a 20th to 30th ranked class, depending upon which service you believe. Today, we’ll take a look at the rest, and give you our opinion. That and two bucks will buy you a cup of coffee.

Who we probably don’t get: Montravius Adams – (Dooly County HS) – Vienna GA, Shaquille Wiggins – (Sandy Creek HS) – Tyrone GA, Jatavious Stewart – (Hutchinson) – Hutchinson KS, Cortez Leonard – (Callaway HS) – Hogansville GA, Dan Skipper – (Ralston Valley HS) – Arvada CO, Laquon Treadwell – (Crete-Monee HS) – Crete IL, Laremy Tunsil – (Columbia High School- South) – Lake City FL, Elijah Daniel – (Avon HS) – Avon IN, Mackensie Alexander – (Immokalee HS) -Immokalee FL, Denver Kirkland – (Booker T. Washington HS) – Miami FL, Cornelius Elder – (Ensworth HS) – Nashville TN, Stacy Coley – (Northeast HS) – Oakland Park FL, Zach Cunningham – (Pinson Valley HS) – Pinson AL, Jason Carr – (White Station HS) – Memphis TN, Josh Augusta – (Peoria HS) – Peoria IL, Jamel James – (Cinco Ranch HS) – Katy TX, Jordan Wilkins – (St. Benedict At Auburndale) – Cordova TN, Toby Johnson – (Hutchinson) – Hutchinson KS, Durham Smythe – (Belton HS) – Belton, TX, Bobby Billingsley – (East HS) – Memphis TN, Montreal Jordan – (Philadelphia HS) – Philadelphia MS, Jahmere Irvin-Sills – (Tri-State Christian Academy) – Elkton, MD, A.J. Jackson – (Lovejoy HS) – Lovejoy GA.

Who we get – Kailo Moore – (West Bolivar Dist HS) – Rosedale MS, Thomas Oser – (Harvard-Westlake School) – N Hollywood CA, Robert Nkemdiche – (Grayson HS) – Loganville GA, Derrick Green – (Hermitage HS) – Richmond VA, Antonio Conner – (South Panola HS) – Batesville MS, Ashton Shumpert – (Itawamba Agricultural HS) – Fulton MS, Mitch Parsons – (Chaparral HS) -Parker CO, Jeremy Tyler – (King HS) – Lithonia GA, David Kamara – (Grayson HS) -Loganville GA, Duke Riley – (John Curtis Christian) – River Ridge LA, Quinton Lane – (Ackerman HS) – Ackerman MS, DeMarquis Polite-Bray – (King HS) – Lithonia GA.

If you know anything about recruiting, you can see the numbers don’t add up. We will still get a few from the first list. As the time to Signing Day gets closer, those kinds of decisions will be made.

Things are very fluid this time of year and are subject to change. Neither of the above lists are correct. However, both are close. Lots of things will happen and this coaching staff will have some sleepless nights. Fans will debate, wonder and anticipate. Fans of other schools will start rumors. It’s all part of the process.

Enjoy the ride. We have a coaching staff that works hard, players that show recruits the best of Ole Miss, students that make them feel welcome, and the most beautiful campus in the country.
