Wildcats push past Rebels

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team came back from a 12-point deficit to lead by four with just over three minutes to play, but the Northwestern Wildcats came back the last three minutes of the game to post the 73-69 win.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 6-5 while Northwestern improved to 7-4.
Amber Singletary recorded a career-high 18 points to lead Ole Miss, all in the second half.  Gracie Frizzell added 16 while Valencia McFarland scored 12.
McFarland tied her career high with seven rebounds while Courtney Marbra also added seven rebounds. McFarland recorded six assists in the game for her 30th career game with at least five assists.
For the game, Ole Miss shot 34.3 (23-67) percent from the floor and made a season-high 10 threes.
The Wildcats built up a 10 point lead, 13-3, before the Rebels went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 13-13 with 11:21 remaining in the first half.
Northwestern pushed its lead to 12, 32-20, with 4:25 left in the half. McFarland hit a three with two seconds left in the half to cut the Wildcats lead to 36-28 at the break.
McFarland led the Rebels with 10 points at the half while Frizzell added eight. As a team, Ole Miss shot 31.4 percent (11-35) from the floor while Northwestern shot 48.1 percent (13-27). Ole Miss held a 23-19 advantage in rebounds.
Ole Miss went on a 10-0 run, with Singletary scoring all 10 points, to pull the Rebels to within three, 49-46, with 12:24 to play.
Ole Miss led by six, 57-51, after free throws from Frizzell but Northwestern came back to within one, 63-62, with 4:27 remaining.
The Wildcats went up 71-66 with 1:24 to play.
Ole Miss will open play in the Tulane DoubleTree Classic on Dec. 29 against McNeese State at 3 p.m.  The team will face either host Tulane or Eastern Michigan on Dec. 30 with a time TBA.
