How Sweet It Was
It was a cold night for the 109th edition of the Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
With a Rebel team showing every sign of putting the red and blue back on track to their glory days on the gridiron, the mood in the Grove and at nearby Vaught-Hemingway Stadium was festive. More than 61,000 fans were in attendance for the 6 p.m. kickoff, and the team led by first-year Head Coach Hugh Freeze did not disappoint the crowd.
The Rebels came away with a 41-24 victory to reclaim the golden egg trophy for the first time in four attempts. The victory was especially sweet as the team’s sixth win of the season, making them bowl eligible for the post season.
Documentary photographer Mike Stanton was on hand to capture these images of the game, the sidelines and the crowd.
