Notable Potables: The Ajax Bloody Mary
Consider it a fourth veggie serving to go with a great meat-and-three

Ah, the Bloody Mary. For some, a restorative measure in the wake of a night well (or ill) spent. For others, simply a morning favorite. Of course, there’s no time of day when the Bloody doesn’t fit the bill. I like mine with my meal.
Regardless the motive, when you want one, you want one.
Oxford has some good Bloodys, and among the best is at Ajax Diner, where it’s the signature libation. Festooned with pepper and lemon and lime wedges and bearing a relatively thin consistency, this uniquely nuanced Mary is bloody good. And since it shares table and palate space with some of the South’s best home cooking, the Ajax Bloody Mary is garnished with a pickled okra, natch.
Suggested pairing: With the Roast Beef & Gravy sandwich. Or with anything.
Ajax Diner is at 118 Courthouse Square in Oxford, Mississippi, and is open Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.
