10 Tips for Students Bringing Cars to College at Ole Miss

One of the best things about living on the Ole Miss campus is that you can walk just about anywhere. And if you can’t walk, the city’s OUT bus system, can you get you there (and those rides are included in your tuition). So, in preparation for the move to Oxford, here are 10 things to remember if you’re bringing a car freshman year.

1. Leave your car at home! But if you must bring it to campus, don’t even think about using it. Park it, ride the bus or contribute $45 to the Ole Miss Scholarship Fund every time you get a ticket!
2. Pay attention to the parking map and learn where you can park. If you park in an unauthorized spot, you get the opportunity to support more Ole Miss scholarships.
4. Limit car use to weekends except when you party too much, and then, again, take a taxi or the bus.
5. Remember, you have four years at Ole Miss during which you can consume spirits; don’t try to fill your tank first week.
6. If you get stopped by the local heat, don’t be a smart a–, keep your mouth shut, and be respectful. Oxford and university cops are nice, but historically the community experiences its own “educational program” demonstrating to students the rules of the community.
7. If you get a DUI or DWI, make yourself at home for the evening in the Lafayette County Jail. Lots of other Ole Miss students have been there, may be there with you, and it is possible someone you are kin to is familiar with the facility as well.

9. If you get tapped by the police twice, expect to walk for a year. Think about all of the ramifications of not being able to drive and you will have a sobering experience. If you don’t think so, ask a fellow student who has lost a drivers license for a year.
