The Mississippi Flood Continues Success in Birmingham, Memphis

The Mississippi Flood Futbol Club continued its success at the Birmingham Bash soccer tournament this weekend. The Flood is north Mississippi’s only premier soccer club uniting players from all over north Mississippi to participate in D1 (select) soccer. The Flood took 13 teams to the tournament in Birmingham and had six teams play in the championship of their respective divisions.

“We are very proud of the effort of our players and the development our coaches are providing for our club, said Chuck Trost, Director of Coaching for the Flood. “We are continuing to grow and add players who want to participate at the D1 level. One of the initial goals of the club was to compete with clubs from larger populated areas and this tournament proves we are achieving our goals for these kids.”

The U10 girls Champions went 4-0 and are coached by Melanie Webb.

The U10 boys Champions went 4-0 and are coached by Tim Murphy.

“Our club brought 13 D1 teams. The commitment of our parents is impressive. It is essential to our club’s success. Many clubs don’t have parents who are as dedicated to their kids, but our club is fortunate to have committed parents,” said Trost.

The U12 Flood Central girls are Champions and are coached by Andrew Jones.

The U14 boys are Finalists and coached by Jamie Perkins.

While most of the Flood was competing in Birmingham, the Mississippi Flood U19 boys team finished second in the Rose Cup in Memphis.

The U19 boys epitomizes one of the goals of the club. In the past, as athletes got older and selected a particular sport, soccer players in north Mississippi were forced to travel to Tupelo or Memphis in order to play D1. Since the Flood has formed and due to great recruitment and commitment of the players, coaches, and parents, these young men are able to play D1 locally. The Flood U19 boys have players from Oxford, Greenwood, Tupelo, Pontotoc, Ecru, New Albany, Corinth, and Jackson. Their coach is Macon Humphreys.
