YAC and Art to Go Offer Summer Art Camps

Creative learning opportunities abound at Powerhouse.

Summer Art Camps are available from the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council and Art to Go at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. Here’s a run-down:

 

July 8-12: Three-Dimensional Art

Experimenting with paper mache, polymer clay and air dry clay, students will receive hands on lessons in creating three dimensional works of art including small sculptures and ceramics. The emphasis will be on basic pinch pots and simple sculptural projects using basic materials.

Classes are for one week, Monday through Friday.

Ages 4-10 are from 9:00-12:00.

Ages 11-14 are from 1:00-4:00.

Cost is $90 for YAC members and $100 for non members

July 15-19: Exploring Painting

This class will be all about painting. Watercolor, acrylic, tempera and even glass paint will be used. We will learn about color mixing, composition and working with different kinds of brushes and substrates including canvas, paper and ceramic tiles.

Classes are for one week, Monday through Friday.

Ages 4-10 are from 9:00-12:00.

Ages 11-14 are from 1:00-4:00.

Cost is $90 for YAC members and $100 for non members.

July 22-26: Great Masters

A favorite from last year, we will continue studying the work of great painters and artists, emulating their styles and techniques. We will add some new artists including Kandinsky, Klee, Munch and others to round out this fun, educational class that blends history and art. This is a hands-on class and students will be creating lots of art while learning about the artists.

Classes are for one week- Monday through Friday.

Ages 4-10 are from 9:00-12:00.

Ages 11-14 are from 1:00-4:00.

Cost is $90 for YAC members and $100 for non members.

July 29-Aug 2: Southern Folk Art

Students will learn about fold art created by greats like Clementine Hunter, Theora Hamblett, Gees Bend Quilters and Moses Tolliver as well as others. Working with “found” supplies such as wood, paper bags and slate will add another dimension to our fold art. This will give real experience as to how the artists worked.

Classes are for one week, Monday through Friday.

Ages 4-10 are from 9:00-12:00.

Ages 11-14 are from 1:00-4:00.

Cost is $90 for YAC members and $100 for non members.
