The Ole Miss Rebels head west for their next four games. Their on-the-road schedule calls for them to make a brief stop in California, before heading out to Hawaii to take part in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. On Wednesday, in the opening game of their road trip, the Rebels will face off against Loyal Marymount at the Gresten Pavilion in Los Angeles at 10 p.m. CT.
The Rebels (7-1) rolled over Eastern Tennessee State by a score of 77-55 in their last outing. Junior Marshall Henderson led the team with 22 points in the victory. Henderson also leads the SEC in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game.
Senior Reginald Buckner’s three blocks in the game moved him past Brandon Wallace of South Carolina and Eric Dampier of Mississippi State to eleventh in SEC history with 250 career blocks.
Coach Kennedy’s thoughts on the play of Reginald Buckner against the Buccaneers from Eastern Tennessee State University?
“I thought he was big, I thought he was really working behind the zone. We played him a team high in minutes when I sat Murphy (Holloway) with two early fouls. We were trying to grind through that first half,” Kennedy said.
Loyal Marymount (5-4) comes into the game against the Rebels after a 92-86-overtime victory over Northern Arizona on December 5th. Junior Anthony Ireland led the Lions with 28 points scored. He is also averaging 21.1 points per game, to lead the team on the season.
Coach Max Good’s Lions are averaging 76.8 points per game ranking them at number 47 in the nation in scoring. While the Rebels come into the game averaging 82.6 points per game –– putting them at number eight in the country in scoring.
This is the first ever matchup between the Lions and the Rebels. The last time Ole Miss played in California was in the 2011 National Invitational Tournament against the University of California. The Cal Bears defeated the Ole Miss Rebels by a score of 77-74.
