Ole Miss to play four matches in Fort Worth, Texas

The Ole Miss volleyball team will hit the road for the second time this season when it travels to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on Grambling State, Stephen F. Austin, Houston and tournament-host TCU in the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Rebels (4-2) will open play in the tournament Friday against Grambling State at 10:00 a.m. CT, followed by a match against Stephen F. Austin at 5:00 p.m. CT. Ole Miss will close out the tournament Saturday with another doubleheader against Houston (12:00 p.m. CT) and TCU (7:30 p.m. CT).

“We’re going to play some really solid teams down there,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin said. “We’ve got to see that continued offensive power getting better. If we can make the strides that we did from week one to week two I’ll be really pleased.”

Ole Miss went 2-1 in its home-opening tournament, the Magnolia Invitational, last weekend. The Rebels defeated Kennesaw State on Friday morning 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-18) behind a season-high .311 team attacking percentage.

One day after dropping a 3-1 decision to Georgia Southern, Ole Miss closed out the tournament with a 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23) victory over Arkansas State. Sophomore middle blocker Nakeyta Clair had a single-match program-record tying nine block assists against the Red Wolves to go with her team-high 13 kills. Clair is currently second in the SEC with 1.33 blocks per set.

Following the tournament, Clair and freshman right side hitter Melanie Crow were each named to the Magnolia Invitational All-Tournament team. Crow averaged 2.18 kills per set on a .364 attacking percentage for the week.

Sophomore middle blocker Ty Laporte is averaging a team-high 2.48 kills per set. Sophomore setter Skylar Johnson is averaging 8.54 assists per set, and freshman setter Aubrey Edie is averaging 8.00 assists per set. Freshman libero Kristen Brashear is leading the Rebels defensively with 4.54 digs per set.
