Deployment is the first residential FTTH activation in Oxford
MetroCast Communications, the video, Internet and phone provider with offices in eight Mississippi communities, has announced that it has deployed advanced fiber-optic technology in Oxford, Miss. and activated its first customers. It is the first time residential FTTH has been activated in these cities.
The FTTH technology has been deployed by MetroCast at The Preserve at Oxford Commons (located off Old Highway 7, about a mile from downtown Oxford). Seventeen single-family units have been wired in Oxford and are expected to be activated next week. As other project phases are completed within these new developments, these also will have access to the technology.
“We are excited to bring this advanced technology to these residents in Oxford,” said MetroCast Regional General Manager, Rick Ferrall. “Fiber to the Home will provide high levels of reliability and will ensure that residents have access to high quality video, Internet and phone services, backed with first-rate customer service and technical support.”
Earlier this spring, MetroCast deployed the FTTH technology for its customers in Carthage, Miss. MetroCast, which has operations in nine states, also has deployed FTTH in its Maryland and Virginia service areas.
“Fiber to the Home” (FTTH) is a pure, 100 percent fiber-optic connection that is made directly to the home. The FTTH technology converts data to laser light waves, which are then transmitted over thin strands of glass. FTTH provides capacity for the delivery of advanced products and services, since vast amounts of data can be carried over great distances with high levels of speed and reliability.
