Memoirs of Mykki

In her documentary, Voodoo Child: Memoirs of a Freak, Mykki Newton, a videographer/editor at the Meek School of Journalism and New Media at Ole Miss, documents her thoughts and her journey from being a television anchorman, to her life as a happy, hippie transexual in Mississippi.

Newton said that she had friends that wanted her to write down her memoirs and share them. Newton didn’t really want to write her story though. Instead she made a documentary and would keep a camera with her at all times. When she felt like talking about a certain subject or time in her life, she would turn the camera on and start talking. The entire documentary was done by Mykki herself.
