Malco Revamps the Old Amp Theatre in Oxford
Malco Theatres has purchased the old Amp Theatre, or most commonly known as the closed movie theatre at the corner of Sisk Avenue and Highway 7 in Oxford. The 10-screen movie theatre and outdoor amphitheater closed its doors years ago, and has since been abandoned, until now.
According to Malco, the theatre company has also acquired the property beside the Amp with plans to increase the size of the current building. The Malco hopes to convert the 10-screen movie theatre and outdoor amphitheater in to a “family entertainment center,” stocked with a 26-lane bowling alley, including a ‘boutique bowling area, a bar and restaurant, birthday party and event rooms, a laser maze and bumper car arena.
The new Malco also will feature the remodeled theatre with new rocking chair seats, top-of-the-line sound systems and state-of-the-art digital projection.
Once completed, Malco’s second location in Oxford will allow Malco to screen a wider range of independent, foreign and smaller films. The new digital projection system in the new theatre also will enable the Malco to host concerts, operas, live theatre and sporting events.
The theatre is set to open by Labor Day of this year. The bowling alley and the rest of the family entertainment center are to be completed in 2014.
