Ole Miss lit up the scoreboard of the Pavilion against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in a 94-76 victory on Friday night to open the 2017-18 season.
The Rebels (1-0) had five players score in double figures. Terrence Davis led the way with 21 points, as Deandre Burnett scored 17, freshman Devontae Shuler added 14 points, and Breein Tyree contributed 10 points to the mix.
“We got contributions from many people, and we beat a quality team by 18 points on a night that we did not play our best,” Ole Miss coach Andy Kennedy said
Senior Marcanvis Hymon recorded the first double-double of the season for Ole Miss with 12 points and 13 rebounds against the Ragin’ Cajuns.
“I thought he was terrific,” Kennedy said. “(Hymon) finished around the basket and kept balls alive. He had 13 big rebounds against a good basketball team.”
Louisiana took a 42-40 lead into the dressing room at the half. But Ole Miss’s shooting came to life in the second half by putting up 54 points.
The Ragin’ Cajuns shot 36.6 percent from the floor in the game. The Rebels were hitting the bucket at 50.8 percent throughout the night.
Ole Miss returns to action on Monday night as they host Eastern Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. inside the Pavilion.
