Chancellor’s House Is Making History As Mississippi Is Celebrating History

As part of the Mississippi Bicentennial weekend in Oxford June 23-25, Chancellors House will be hosting an event that celebrates the history and future of the Magnolia State. The luxury boutique hotel opened its doors in early 2017 in historic downtown Oxford, Mississippi. With the finest service and amenities, Chancellor’s House represents the peak of Mississippi luxury.

The celebration will include an open house tour of Chancellor’s House, as well as special visits from select VIPs including Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves and Katherine Blount, the Director of Mississippi Department of Archives and History. Public areas, rooms, suites and the hotel rooftop will all be shown on the tour. A classic “Mississippi Moonshine” cocktail of moonshine and ginger lemonade will be offered as an homage to the history of Mississippi. Finally, Chancellor’s House will also offer a presentation on the new Mississippi History Museum and Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, set to open December 9th. These museums now under construction represent the largest project in the state’s capitol city since the building of the New Capitol in 1930.
The open house will kick off at 10:00 am with participation from the Chairman of the Board of the Oxford Chamber Ryan Miller, Visit Oxford’s Mary Allyn Hedges and the Mayor Elect Robyn Tannehill. Tour guides will be available to take visitors on a tour through the elegant hotel to include the public spaces and even some rooms and suites. The event will culminate with the arrival of Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves and Katie Blount.
“It’s an honor to host such a historic event at our fine establishment,” said Chancellor’s House Managing Director Michael Donoghue. “At Chancellor’s House, everyone deserves to be pampered. With our open house, we’re hoping to show the people of Mississippi and beyond how accessible fine luxury can be. We are now a part of Mississippi’s history and are delighted to participate in the celebration.”
The Chancellor’s House, nestled on the corner of University and Lamar, serves as a gateway to the Historic square of Oxford, Mississippi. The hotel displays beautiful southern architecture, reflecting the history and feel of the nearby Ole Miss campus with refined touches such as arches, terraces, and balconies that create this special structure. With Ole Miss just down the street, students, parents and alumni can conveniently book a stay to experience the southern elegance and pampering available at Chancellor’s House. The hotel also features the only Steinway Spirio on public display in North America, giving guests the opportunity to play and experience classical music the way it was intended.
The hotel has 13 suites and 18 rooms, which range from 500 to 1,000 square feet. It has recessed decorated ceilings for beauty in every inch of the house. Some luxury amenities include: 100% Egyptian cotton linens, monogrammed terry cloth robes and towels, 60-inch flat screen TVs, branded bath amenities, balconies or European terraces with all rooms and suites. For guests with tastes for arts, the hotel includes a curated art collection. Bathrooms host beautiful claw foot tubs, and marble and granite bath fixtures.
Chancellor’s Grill, the fine dining restaurant hidden within the walls of the Chancellor’s House hotel serves only the best quality food and drink. Reminiscent of New York’s grand old steakhouses of yore, the Grill’s wood planked floors, reclaimed furniture pieces, eclectic artwork and press metal ceiling all create an industrial feel and are complemented with fine cuisine, prestigious vintage wines and white tablecloth service.
“The Chancellor’s House is an impressive example of how Mississippians give back to their home state through investment and job creation,” said Lt. Governor Tate Reeves. “The celebration is a fantastic opportunity to showcase one of our state’s finest new hotels during this historic bicentennial celebration.”
