The University of Mississippi Police Department is currently investigating a sexual assault that allegedly occurred around 11 p.m. Friday at the Alpha Tau Omega house at 8 Chapel Lane.
Immediately after the assault, the person reported what happened to UPD and was then taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, said UPD Chief Tim Potts.
Potts noted that even though the sexual assault allegedly took place at the ATO house, the perpetrator might not be a member of the ATO chapter.
“There was a function going on at the house when the attack allegedly occurred, but that doesn’t mean that the person involved was a member of the chapter,” he said.
He added that the ATO leadership and other members of the fraternity have been cooperative in the investigation.
“In fact, they had another event scheduled at the house on Saturday, but after what was reported Friday, Saturday’s event was canceled,” Potts said.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 6′ 3″ with a large build and dark, curly, shoulder-length hair. The suspect was wearing khaki shorts and a red, Ole Miss buttoned-collared shirt, according to the reporting party.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact UPD by calling 662-915-4911 or by email at upd@olemiss.edu.
