Former Rebel LB C.J Johnson has agreed to become a member of Lane Kiffin’s staff at Florida Atlantic University for the upcoming 2017 season. Also on staff at FAU is former Rebel DL coach, Chris Kiffin, who serves as the Owls defensive coordinator.

After joining the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent, he was released before the start of training camp. At that point, Johnson decided to hang up his cleats and pursue a career in coaching. This decision led to Johnson accepting a position as an assistant at East Mississippi Community College. After spending the 2016 with the Lions, Johnson will head to Boca Raton to join his former coach at FAU.

Johnson battled injuries in four seasons as a player at Ole Miss but was always an emotional leader on the once vaunted Rebel defense. If he can channel that same energy into coaching young players, FAU is getting a great addition to their defensive staff.
