Crime Report: OPD Makes 76 Arrests Over The Weekend
When #1 Alabama came to town, Oxford Police Department’s Chief Joey East said the department’s goal was to be proactive in preventing disturbances or unsafe activities. With 76 arrests, it’s safe to say the department did just that.
Sergeant Ryan Winters said OPD takes extra steps any time there is an increase in population in Oxford, especially on Game Day.
“We had a lot of people in town from all over,” Winters said. “Of course, you’re going to have more arrests if people are going to act out of character. I think that would constitute why the arrests numbers were so high.”
