Actor Gene Wilder is dead at the age of 83.

One of his most well-known films some would argue was “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,” but he was also known for his Mel Brookes comedies “Young Frankenstein,” “Blazing Saddles,” and “The Producers.”

The legendary actor died Monday at his home in Stamford, Conn.

Wilder’s other memorable movies with comedian Richard Pryor include “Stir Crazy” and “Silver Streak.”

Wilder’s family said in a statement he died due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.  Wilder’s nephew said Wilder wanted to keep his battle with the disease a secret so that kids would remember him as Willy Wonka.
