The Mississippi Highway Patrol concluded its 2016 Fourth of July enforcement period which began Friday, July 1, at 6:00 p.m. and ended Monday, July 4 at midnight. Throughout the period, MHP issued 7,877 citations with 182 DUI arrests. A total of 131 crashes were investigated including six fatalities and 75 injuries on state, federal highways, and interstate systems. A total of 444 seatbelt citations were issued along with 71 child restraint violations.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 17 alarms, 12 disturbing the peace, 10 discharging fireworks in the city, 10 suspicious activity, seven careless driving, five ambulance assists, three burglaries, two electric department assists, two fire department assists, two thefts, two malicious mischief, two counterfeit currency, two littering, two trespassing, two welfare concerns, two motorist assists, a larceny per joy-riding, an open door, an animal complaint, an information report, a domestic violence and a harassing phone call.
Oxford police investigated 11 wrecks, issued 120 traffic citations and made — arrests on the following charges:

Public drunk
Simple assault
Public consumption
Speeding and DUI to first degree
Careless driving and DUI to first degree
No tag and possession of drug paraphernalia
Speeding and possession of drug paraphernalia
Vehicle noise violation and no liability insurance
Malicious mischief, public drunk and failure to comply
Careless driving, suspended driver’s license and warrant served
No liability insurance, no driver’s license and DUI to first degree
Careless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia and DUI to first degree
Seatbelt violation, no liability insurance and a suspended driver’s license
Careless driving, possession of alcohol by minor, fake ID and DUI to first degree
Implied or no tag, no liability insurance, suspended driver’s license and warrant served
Burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule IV drug, public drunk and fake ID
