This House Concurrent Resolution has not been numbered yet, but copies of the resolution were passed out at the press conference. The copy said the bill is entitled as “An Act to Repeal House Bill 1523…”

Rep. Hughes said in a press release that he sent out yesterday:
“This resolution is in direct response to the local and national negative consequences on Mississippi, its economic development, tourism industry, and perception of the good people of Mississippi. This suspension resolution is the required first step in a process to allow the repeal HB1523, and all of its discriminatory consequences.”
Since the deadline for introduction of new bills has passed, Hughes said on his Facebook page he would have to file a “Suspension Resolution” for House Speaker Philip Gunn to allow a vote for the bill on the floor. Two-thirds of all house members would have to vote to suspend the rules and allow a bill to repeal HB 1523, and then Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves would then allow a vote which may pass the bill along to Governor Phil Bryant.
The Clarion-Ledger‘s Geoff Pender wrote that the passage of this resolution “would appear doubtful, given the margins by which the final bill passed: 69-44 in the House and 32-17 in the Senate.”
