C Spire Brings Fast Wi-Fi to Ole Miss Pavilion
C Spire is partnering with the Ole Miss athletic department to provide the fastest internet possible to The Pavilion, the new basketball arena that is expected to open in early January of 2016.
The one gigabite-per-second Wi-Fi network called “Speedzone” will be available to the nearly 25,000 current students, faculty, and staff at the University of Mississippi and to the thousands of visitors the 840-acre campus receives.
Ward Toler, the Market Manager at the local C-Spire store in Oxford, sees this as not only benefitting students, but also helping the already strong relationship between C-Spire and the Athletics Department at Ole Miss, “We have a 20 year relationship with Ole Miss Athletics, and this will just be another way to extend and further add to that long standing relationship with them.”
The C-Spire Speedzone will have a retail presence in The Pavilion allowing visitors to be able to buy accessories for their, phones, tablets, and computers. The Speedzone Wi-Fi will also allow visitors and students to study and do homework, stream movies and music, upload papers and assignments, and enjoy gaming.
The C-Spire Speedzone will be highly-contemporary in design, featuring digital displays of Ole Miss sports Twitter feeds as well as other social media content and traditional news feeds. All the furniture and fixtures in the Speedzone are power port-enabled, allowing students and visitors to sit down, plug-in and have quick high-speed Internet access to their electronic devices and laptop computers.
Tyler Wilson, a Senior at Ole Miss, thinks the new C-Spire Speedzone will definitely attract crowds of students looking for a place to either do work, or hang out. “I really think The Pavilion will be a great place for students to slow down and relax after a long day of classes and hangout with friends,” Wilson said. “I would definitely use the fast Wi-Fi to help me out with school work, and I think it will help people out a lot at basketball games who are trying to use their phones.”
The C-Spire Speedzone would not be the only addition to The Pavilion. Restaurants being brought to this state of the art facility such as Raising Canes’ and Steak n’ Shake would help this building to also act as a second student union with the current student union beginning to undergo a $50 million renovation and expansion.
Currently, the Ole Miss Basketball team plays in C. M. Tad Smith Coliseum, and will play Northwestern St. for their home opener on November 13.
