Preferred Chancellor Candidate Looks Forward to Leading UM

The Board of Trustees presented Dr. Vitter as the preferred candidate in the Chancellor’s search as vetting continues in the process.

Dr. Jeffrey Vitter, the preferred candidate for Chancellor at The University of Mississippi, says Ole Miss is “a gem” that is attracting great interest around the country. He believes The University of Mississippi is providing great leadership to Mississippi.

Dr. Vitter, who will be in Oxford on Friday, said he is excited to be considered for the position of Chancellor and looks forward “to taking Ole Miss to the next level of excellence.”

“Ole Miss is a gem, an up and coming institution, that is a driver for the State. To the extent that what I have done at KU (University of Kansas) that has made me attractive in the search process, I am grateful and excited, “ Dr. Vitter said.

“I look forward to helping take Ole Miss to the next level,” he added.

Dr. Vitter’s academic field is computer science. He is currently Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor at the University of Kansas and is a widely published and recognized scholar, a member of many research and scholarly groups.

His career has included senior level experiences at Texas A & M University, Purdue, Duke and Brown University.

He will meet with major donors and supporters at an event in the Coliseum Friday at 5:30 p.m. and will meet with campus groups next week. He is thought to be attending the Ole Miss-Texas A&M game on Saturday.

Board chairman Allen Perry said that following the outcome of the campus vetting process the Board will make its decision regarding the position of Chancellor next week.
