Oxford Crime Report: Wednesday, April 15

Oxford School District (OSD) officials confirm that they are cooperating with an ongoing investigation by local, state and federal law enforcement regarding a verbal threat made by an Oxford Middle School (OMS) student. The OMS student involved in the ongoing law enforcement investigation has been disciplined for a separate violation of the Oxford School District Code of Conduct.

Law enforcement officials opened the investigation on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, after another Oxford Middle School student reported the verbal threats made against the school to the OMS School Resource Officer. Because the investigation is ongoing, Oxford School District officials cannot release the identity of any school students involved or details surrounding the law enforcement investigation. Oxford police responded to the following incidents: six alarms, five disturbances, three suspicious persons, two harassing phone calls, two identity thefts, two motorist assists, a suspicious activity, a suspicious vehicle, a malicious mischief, a lost property, a welfare concern, an animal complaint, a shoplifting, a petit larceny, a lost property, an uttering forgery, a residential burglary at 100 Anchorage Road and an auto-burglary at 900 Battle Lane.

Oxford police investigated four wrecks, issued 52 tickets and made nine arrests on the following charges: (2) possession of drug paraphernalia; a warrant served; an out of jurisdiction warrant served; a domestic violence per simple assault, resisting arrest and malicious mischief; a careless driving with failure to yield to emergency vehicle and a DUI to first degree; a speeding with a suspended driver’s license; a careless driving with no driver’s license and a possession of drug paraphernalia; a speeding with a suspended driver’s license; and a public drunk with a possession of controlled substance and a possession of fake ID and also possession of drug paraphernalia.

University police responded to the following incidents: three traffic assists, two vehicle stops, a possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by minor at Kincannon Hall, and a vehicle accident at Falkner Hall.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls: a duct detector malfunction at the Student Health Center, and a report of a smell of smoke in the laundry room but there was no smoke smell upon arrival so the firefighters unplugged the dryer at 418 Olive Branch Way.
