Oxford Middle Ready for Students in Old Oxford High

Published

on

For those of us who graduated from Oxford High School in the last 40+ years, all attended the same school at 222 Bramlett Blvd. However, the Oxford School District opened their new, state-of-the-art high school this spring, leaving the old location vacant. With the ever-increasing class sizes in our small town, the entire district is going through a shift as grades get spread among the now six schools.
The district spent this spring and summer sprucing up the old high school to accommodate 650 seventh and eighth graders on Monday. The walls are longer exposed or painted red brick; the two-tone blue really lightens up the halls.
Each classroom is equipped with flat-screen TVs, WiFi and all the technology needed to support the MacBook Air laptops that will be given to each student starting this year in lieu of books.
OMS Principal Jeff Clay said that Monday will truly be the first day of school for everyone as they transition to the new, larger facility.
Below are photos of progress and changes made at the new OMS campus. The OHS sports teams will still use the fields and facilities until all phases of the new high school are complete. The gym, band hall, cafeteria, and auditorium were all left as-is for now.

The sign closest to Bramlett Blvd. may still say Oxford High for now, but the new Oxford Middle School is showing off their new sign (and handicap accessibility) for the start of the school year.
